December 14, 2023

The day begins before the world asks anything of it.

Out on the front porch, the air carries that quiet edge of winter—not harsh, just enough to remind you you’re awake. The sky is already at work, layering color across the horizon like it’s been practicing all night. Soft gold rises first, then orange, then those streaks of cloud catching fire just long enough to matter.

You don’t rush it.

For over three years now, this has been the first task of the day—not obligation, not routine exactly, but something closer to a promise. Step outside. Take the photo. Notice what’s there. Some mornings are louder, more dramatic. Others, like this one, are quieter—steady, honest, enough.

You head back inside while the light continues without you.

The bed gets made. A glass of water—simple, grounding—before the first pull of coffee brings the rest of the day into focus. The work begins, piece by piece, building something that didn’t exist before, shaping a website the same way you’ve shaped this life: patiently, intentionally.

Breakfast doesn’t change. Oatmeal, cottage cheese, walnuts. There’s comfort in that. Not everything needs to be new to be good.

Twice a week, the rhythm shifts outward—Meals on Wheels, a different kind of connection, where the day extends beyond your own porch and into someone else’s. Then the gym, movement following purpose, keeping the body as steady as the routine that carries it.

Some days bring the bike—open roads, good company, the kind of conversation that doesn’t need to fill every mile. Just enough to remind you you’re not doing this life alone.

And then, back again. More work. More building. More quiet progress.

But it all starts here.

With a sunrise that asks nothing and gives everything.

Horny Hollow stretches out below, unchanged and ever-changing at the same time.  My little slice of heaven.

A good life doesn’t always announce itself.

Sometimes, it just shows up every morning—and waits for you on the porch.
